Supporting Each Other As Mothers.

March 30, 2020

Stepping into a whole new stage of life – we both are. And we are new, and this is new, and some days we feel like we are wearing someone else’s shoes completely. We are not pros, by any means…and we do not act like we are because let’s be honest, my child is turning one tomorrow and Larissa’s little lady is 3 months. But we have been watching other mothers for a long time, we were raised by mothers, and we have many friends who are mothers. No one is perfect, but every mother can bring something special to the table. Supporting one another in this walk of life is key, as society wants us to rip each other apart, and we have a couple ways we have seen this in play in our personal lives. To start, is the ugly sin of comparison. It’s so easy to fall into. Someone else just baked homemade bread for the entire family, this mother runs her own business and appears to do it all, this mother buys her children the cutest clothes, her child was walking before she was one, her children are not on a schedule, and on and on and on. Guess what? At the end of the day, God has blessed us all with motherly instincts, but different gifts. Let’s be prayerful that God can give us a content heart, and one that refines our own gifts as mothers. Another way we can support each other is to keep our unique opinions to ourselves. Unless something directly goes against the Gospel, we as mothers must be prayerful for each other, and learn to respect the way each of us raise our children. We speak of technology, vaccines, discipline, schooling, etc. Unless we are having an open conversation and each mother is comfortable inside it, or a mother asks for another’s advice and opinion, we should be very careful how freely we go around speaking our minds. One of the best gifts God has given us as mothers is the gift of understanding. A new baby brings change, and we love watching other women band together to help in this change – bringing meals, folding laundry, allowing rest for the weary new mom. We also love sharing recipes with one another, writing a note to show we are there, asking to babysit for a date night – all of this being ways of supporting one another. On our hearts the most though, is the gift of prayer. Truly without this, where would we be? Prayer lifts us up, gets us through the long nights, binds us together in the throne room above. To one mother to another, we need each other. XOXO
